Intro to R programming – Part II (Online)

After this course, students will be able to undertake independent projects in R in an efficient and error free manner. This course will use the R-studio integrated development environment as a framework, and has the main objective of teaching the basics of good programming practice in R. A list of topics and a tentative outline is included below. As pre-requisites students should be familiar with the topics studied in Introduction to R – Part I.

Day 1

I. Best project practices within R and RStudio
A. R projects
B. Project Organization
C. Data pipelines in projects
II. Writing Functions I
A. Do Not Repeat Yourself
B. How to not repeat yourself
C. Writing Functions in R (convert C to F, cleaning data)

Day 2

III. Writing Functions II
A. Multi-Step Functions (not just one input output)
B. Dissect practical applications of using Functions
IV. Advanced Functions
A. OOP vs Functional
B. Debugging
